Band history

Dead Serious, the Belgian cult thrash metal band, is back! Originally founded in 1987, the band played its last live show in 1993. Their style can be described as old-school ‘Bay Area style’ thrash, reminiscent of legends like Anthrax and Exodus. Humor was always an integral part of their music, lyrics, and overall image.

During their active years, Dead Serious recorded one album: It's A Nice Day, which was completed in 1989. However, due to the bankruptcy of their label, the release was delayed until 1991, when it was finally issued on CD by West Virginia Records (Germany). The album sold exceptionally well in Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium, and the band played countless gigs and festivals, with supports for Messiah, Pestilence, Blind Fury, Faithful Breath, Cyclone,…

Tragically, in 1993, drummer Marc Vereecken was killed in a traffic accident, marking the end of the band.

Despite being inactive for decades, Dead Serious maintained a cult following. Fans frequently requested a reunion, and proof of their lasting impact came in 2021 when It's A Nice Day was remastered and successfully re-released by Sounds of Hell Records—this time with a few bonus tracks.

When original frontman and stage beast Armando Thiebaut passed away in 2021, any hope of a comeback seemed lost forever.

However, fate had other plans. Three incredibly talented young musicians have stepped in to carry on the legacy: Jan Schepens (ex-Aerostone) on guitar, Xavier Weekers (also known from Tyrant King) on drums and William Lawson (frontman of Promise Down), a singer who not only eerily resembles the younger Armando but also captures his signature sound with uncanny precision. Together with original members Jan Van Der Poorten (guitar) and Gunther ‘Gunny’ Poppe (bass) – both also members of Cult of Scarecrow - Dead Serious is alive once more.

The band is currently hard at work rehearsing their classic repertoire, aiming to hit the stage again by the end of 2025—a staggering 32 (!) years after their last show!
